This is the recipe of my Grandmas Haselnussmakronen/hazelnut macaroons. My brothers and I love this treat and as kids were anxiously waiting for Christmas to be able to enjoy the Haselnussmakronen. There are multiple versions how to make these. I like this version a lot and I do love hazelnuts. The Haselnussmakronen are baked on low heat and because of that the dough, which is just the egg whites beaten into a meringue, slowly cooks and gives the cookie an airy crunch which turns into a little bit heavier crunch, caused by the ground hazelnuts. The earthy flavors mix with the lighter flavor of vanilla, sugar and egg whites and the hazelnut notes will come out on top.
