Bäckerei Vogelfrei will stop participating in the San Marcos Farmers Market End of March 2024. We have one more market day, 3/30. We will be moving away to be closer to family.

BADISCHES LANDBROT / BADEN COUNTRY BREAD The Sourdough Bread is a blend of 55% wheat flour and 45% of dark rye flour.

BADISCHES LANDBROT MIT LEINSAMEN / BADEN COUNTRY BREAD WITH FLAX SEEDSFlax seeds are another common addition to breads and rolls. It is a nice and healthy touch to our sourdough bread.

DINKELSAUERTEIGBROT / SPELT SOURDOUGH BREADIn my hometown and in the region of Baden, Basel, and Alsace you will find bakeries that make breads either sourdough based or using yeast as a leaven, that have nuts and fruits in it.

MARKGRÄFLER BUUREBROT / MARKGRÄFLER FARMERS BREADThis is a typical Buurebrot / Farmers Bread from the Markgräferland. The three different flours of organic white wheat flour, organic whole wheat flour and organic rye flour make it very flavorful.

SCHWARZWÄLDERBROT / BLACK FOREST BREADOur Schwarzälderbrot is a typical hardy and nutritious sourdough bread you can find in the black forest area. It includes whole Einkorn and whole Spelt flour, which are both ancient grains.

WEIZENBROT / WHEAT BREAD This bread smells of fresh wheat, light straw, roasted almonds and lightly caramelized sugar.

MARZIPANZOPF / MARZIPAN BREADThe Marzipanzopf is traditionally made for easter, but you find it many times year-round. No wonder, since it is such a tasty, delicious, and soft bread. The marzipan is mixed with lemon juice and additional egg whites, which gives it a creamy consistency.

NUSSZOPF / NUT BREADMy mother used to bake this crunchy nutbread every Saturday afternoon so that we had this fantastic bread for the Sunday breakfast.

FOCACCIA / ITALIAN FLAT BREADIt is a great bread just by itself to snack on or with olive oil and of course as a sandwich bread. There are a lot of option to use this delicious bread. In the course of the seasons, you will see different versions of the Focaccia.

SCHARWAAIE / SAVORY FLAT BREADTraditionally this bread is made of the left-over dough when people came together on the baking day.

ZWIEBELWAAIE / ONION FLAT BREADZwiebelwaaie is a hearty dish, made out of a crunchy dough crust filled with cream, onions, as well as many spices.

BADISCHES LAUGEBREZELI / BADISCHE LYE PRETZELA Brezeli goes very well with cheese, Emmentaler, Brie, Gruyère or a variety of cold cuts, ham, Speck (black forest ham) and Salami.

BADISCHES LAUGEWEGGLI / BADISCHE LYE ROLLThis is a typical roll you can eat with all kinds of things, like cheese, cold cuts, butter or just by itself.

MILCHWEGGE / MILK ROLLSAs the name suggests the dough is made with milk, has a little bit of sugar and some butter in it. The rolls are shaped and put right away on a baking sheet when the dough is done and rise for a relative short time.

WASSERWEGGLI / WATER ROLLWasserweggli literally means “Water Roll”, this refers to the fact that there are no dairy products like milk or butter added.

LINZERTORTE / LINZ CAKEMy mother and grandmother baked Linzertorte on a regular basis. The dough is easy to make. It is the assembling of the cake, that is tricky, because of the high butter content in the dough. It is pretty much a cookie dough.

ÖPFELCHUCHE/APPLE CAKEMy mom used to make this cake with the apples from our garden. I love this cake because it is fluffy and moist.

SCHOKOLADE HASELNUSS TOERTLI / CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT TARTThis is a dream for chocolate lovers! You get the crunchiness from the nuts and the crust which then gets complemented with the bittersweet chocolate, melting away in your mouth.

VEGANES ZITRONENCREMETÖRTLI / VEGAN LEMON CURD TARTThe Zitronecremetoertli is a vegan version what often is called a Zitronenschnitte (lemon slice).

ANIS-ZITRONEN-PLÄTZCHEN / ANISE LEMON COOKIEIn Germany you will find Anise in breads and cookies and in this specific cookie it is combined with lemon. The cookie has a subtle fresh lemon flavor combined with Anise it becomes more complex and both together are very refreshing.

HASELNUSSMAKRONEN/HAZELNUT MACAROONSThis is the recipe of my Grandmas Haselnussmakronen/hazelnut macaroons. My brothers and I love this treat and as kids were anxiously waiting for Christmas to be able to enjoy the Haselnussmakronen.

JELÄNGER JELIEBER / THE LONGER THE BETTEERJelänger Jelieber is a cookie recipe I found on a typical German recipe card, which are kept in tin cans. It is a relatively simple recipe, but it is the work that goes into the making of it that will make the texture so soft and silky.

NUSSPIRALEN / NUT PIN WHEELSIt looks great and tastes good. It is a mix of butter and then the chocolate, hazelnuts and a hint of cinnamon is coming through. The cookies are not to sweet and therefor it is a very balanced flavor of all the ingredients.

RIIEBLIBRÖTLI/CARROT SHORTBREADRiieblibrötli is very similar to a short bread, nice The and crunchy and balanced flavors. It has some grated carrots in the dough, which gives it a nice rich yellow color and a subtle flavor of carrots.

WIIEBRÖTLI/WINE COOKIEWine adds a light fruitiness to the cookie, which is crunchy and has a nice vanilla flavor up front, which will mingle with the butter and cream flavor and will have a little fruitiness in the background from the wine.
