Anise is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae native to Eurasia. The flavor and aroma of its seeds have similarities with some other spices and herbs, such as star anise, fennel, licorice, and tarragon. It is widely cultivated and used to flavor food, candy, and alcoholic drinks, especially around the Mediterranean. In Germany you will find Anise in breads and cookies and in this specific cookie it is combined with lemon. The cookie has a subtle fresh lemon flavor combined with Anise it becomes more complex and both together are very refreshing. It is a light crunchy cookie and when chewing you will bite here and there onto an Anise seed which is like a refreshing fennel/licorice flavor explosion.
